New Jersey days away from passing pay transparency

Governor Murphy has 45 days to sign pay transparency into law

Last week on 9/28/24 the NJ legislature passed bill (S2310/A4151) after a unanimous vote to approve the bill in the NJ senate.

Now, the bill is on governor Murphy’s desk to sign into law. If signed - 6 months from that day, employers with 10+ employees that do business in or take applications for employment in NJ will have to comply.

Here are the highlights:

  • Must post hourly rate or salary range for new jobs and internal transfers

  • A general description of benefits and other compensation is required in the posting

  • Applies to jobs posted by 3rd parties

  • Applies to promotions - employers must make reasonable efforts to announce or make known opportunities for promotions.

We’ve updated our live pay transparency tracker to reflect the change so you can stay up to date on nationwide pay transparency requirements.
