Massachusetts joins the pay transparency fight

MA becomes 14th state to pass pay transparency legislation

2025 is shaping up to be the year of pay transparency in the United States.

Effective July 24, 2024 Massachusetts legislature passed its pending pay transparency bill. All that’s left is for the governor to sign the bill into law.

Here are the highlights:

  • Subject to employers with 25 or more employees in MA

  • Must post a good faith annual salary or hourly range in the job posting

  • Pay range is required to be provided to employees who transfer roles, are promoted, or start a new internal role

  • And provide the range to existing employees who request it.

Compliance is currently set for 1 year from the date legislation is signed into law.

We’ve updated our live pay transparency tracker to reflect the change so you can keep up to date on nationwide pay transparency requirements.
